Denis Bouriakov

Principal Flute of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland, Denis has recently become a prizewinner at four of the world’s most prestigious international flute competitions in Japan (Kobe), France (Rampal), Denmark (Nielsen) and Germany (Munich ARD). One of his latest achievements is a CD recording with William Bennett and English Chamber Orchestra, where he plays as a co-soloist. Denis has also been William Bennett’s teaching assistant in his 2004 and 2005 Summer Schools in Farnham (England). After his graduation in July 2004, the Royal

Academy of Music has awarded Denis the Principal’s award and the Fellowship for 2004-2005 academic year, which includes Principal Study teaching and giving classes for the Academy’s students. Denis has given a recital in the British Flute Society Convention in York in August 2004 and a Headliner Recital in the National Flute Association Convention in San Diego in August 2005.
Denis was born in 1981 in Crimea (South of Russia). In 1991 he was given a place at the Moscow Central Special Music School, where he studied with professor Y.N. Dolzhikov.
Since the age of 11 Denis has been playing in Russia's premier concert halls, such as the Big Conservotoire Hall, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Bolshoy Theatre, “Rossiya” Concert Hall etc. With the support of the “New Names” international charity program and Vladimir Spivakov’s foundation, he played as a soloist in concert tours to over 20 countries in Europe, Asia, South America and USA. Denis has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, among which are the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, “Moscow Virtuosos”, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble of Tokyo, Odense Symphony Orchestra and Munich Chamber Orchestra. After his graduation form the Moscow Central Special Music School in 2000 he went to study with professor William Bennett in London. During these years he has won many prizes in international competitions and played concerts both as a soloist and an orchestra player. Recently he took part in PMF Festival in Japan (2003), the Tunnel Trust Easter School in Scotland and Santander 2004 Music Festival in Spain.
As an orchestra, while being in London Denis often played concerts as a Principal Flute with London Philharmonia, Leeds Opera North, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and Russian Orchestra of London. He is also teaching in the Tampere Conservatoire of Music.

the 2nd prize (1st Prize not awarded) at the Leonardo de Lorenzo International Flute
       Competition in Viggiano (Italy)

2004
– Special Prize for the best interpretation of obligatory work and the Barenreiter
       Urtext prizes at the Munich ARD International Flute Competition

2004
– Charles Leggett and the Hattori Foundation awards winner

Beim 54.Internationalen Musikwettbewerb der ARD 2004 erhielt der Flötist den Sonderpreis für die beste Interpretation der Auftragskomposition der Theodor-Rogler-Stiftung.
